CCHS Karate - Day 2

Osu!

Practice makes perfect...luckily my students are very dedicated and practiced their techniques over the weekend. I was impressed with some of the improvement I saw...even if it had only been 5 days since our last class. I think that I may have to promote some students very soon since their techniques are so crisp. The numbers in class were awesome and we added two seniors to the group. Hopefully we will add new students on a weekly basis.

Here's a group photo...we're missing some students, but there will be more pictures to come.

Introductory Class

I'm excited to say that last night's introductory class was a huge success! 14 Students participated and I'm sure that a few more will be in class on Tuesday night. Overall, class went very well...obviously we started off with an introduction to karate (translated as "empty hands") and a brief overview of how each class will be structured. After stretching and meditation, the karate club students learned the 4 basic blocks (downward, upward, middle outside, and middle inside), two basic kicks (front & roundhouse), how to form and execute a proper punch, as well as two stances (fighting stance & horse stance). Later we worked on several self defense techniques including a wrist lock. Toward the end of class, I challenged my students to execute their strikes on our stationary shields and each student showed very strong technique and I am very happy to say that there are quite a few extremely talented young martial artists enrolled in the CCHS Karate Club!

Informational Meeting

Osu!

One month has gone by since my last post...and I am excited to say that sign-ups went very well. At this point, we have 28 students signed up to participate in the CCHS Karate club! Hopefully more will join in as we get closer to the first class of the year. My plan is to have a follow up meeting with the students who have signed up on November 14th. At this time, I will collect payments from each student for their karate uniform, belt, patch, and club t-shirt. I will also have more information about when and where the first class will be held. As of right now, classes will most likely be held in the Baroni Multipurpose room at 5:30pm on Wednesdays.

Obviously if we get any more students to sign up, I'll have to run two classes. Hopefully one of the classes can be for beginners and another for more advanced students. I'm really looking forward to working with so many experienced martial arts students. I think it's wonderful that so many students who already have experience in other styles want to branch out and become mixed martial artists...having an opportunity to learn a new style will only make each of us better.

If you have any questions or concerns, please e-mail me or see me at CCHS in room 223. Again, everyone is welcome to join the CCHS Karate club...no prior experience is needed.
