Introductory Class

I'm excited to say that last night's introductory class was a huge success! 14 Students participated and I'm sure that a few more will be in class on Tuesday night. Overall, class went very well...obviously we started off with an introduction to karate (translated as "empty hands") and a brief overview of how each class will be structured. After stretching and meditation, the karate club students learned the 4 basic blocks (downward, upward, middle outside, and middle inside), two basic kicks (front & roundhouse), how to form and execute a proper punch, as well as two stances (fighting stance & horse stance). Later we worked on several self defense techniques including a wrist lock. Toward the end of class, I challenged my students to execute their strikes on our stationary shields and each student showed very strong technique and I am very happy to say that there are quite a few extremely talented young martial artists enrolled in the CCHS Karate Club!
